Important update: Future secured for Wild Planet Trust, Paignton Zoo, and Newquay Zoo

Since the announcement in October that Wild Planet Trust was seeking investors for its organisation, a number of potential partners have shown considerable interest. We have carefully reviewed all expressions of interest and proposals and conducted thorough research on each party to ensure that the right decisions are made for Wild Planet Trust and the future of Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo. 

We are pleased to confirm that we have now signed an agreement with Libéma, under which the Trust will step back from operating the two zoos. This transition, due to take place on 2 January 2026, will allow us to fully focus on our conservation objectives. 

Libéma is an outstanding partner, bringing over 40 years of experience in the zoo sector. They currently operate four zoos across the Netherlands, including Beekse Bergen, which welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors last year. Their experience and enthusiasm gives us full confidence that Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo will continue to uphold the highest standards of animal welfare while delivering and developing exceptional visitor experiences. 

Conservation remains at the heart of Wild Planet Trust, and although Libéma is not a charity, they share our commitment to conservation. They actively support around 30 conservation projects worldwide, including the Northern Corridors Project, which created safe corridors between nature reserves to allow elephants to travel safely, avoiding villages and crops.

Whilst stepping away from the operation of the zoos may feel like a significant change, we are genuinely excited about the future. We look forward to collaborating with Libéma to advance conservation work and are confident that they are the best partner to secure the long-term success of the zoos and their conservation goals.
