Local businesses get stuck in to help out at Paignton Zoo

Staff from Trowers & Hamlins, Bettesworths, Co Create Architects, and Premier Inn have been rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in at Paignton Zoo. The teams, who have been putting their talents and time towards a variety of tasks, have enjoyed going behind the scenes and contributing to the charity in some unexpected ways.

Among the various odd jobs that the zoo called for help on, including painting the rhino house and fixing the fencing by the cheetah enclosure, a particularly smelly one was re-bedding the giraffe house. A team of 18 lawyers and associates from the Trowers & Hamlins team spent the best part of a day clearing out giraffe dung from the Large Mammal House; a job which would have taken the zookeepers several weeks to complete.

Dan Park, Senior Associate at Trowers & Hamlins, commented:

“At Trowers and Hamlins we are all encouraged to be responsible corporate citizens and strive to make a positive difference in the communities in which we operate. It is really rewarding to gather a group of colleagues together to help get stuck in with the larger more time-consuming jobs; those that may not be done as often (if at all) without our assistance.”

Now, Paignton Zoo is calling on more businesses to get involved. Katie White, Corporate Relationship Manager at Paignton Zoo, said:

“As a charity, we depend on the generosity of the community in supporting the important work we do. By following the wonderful examples set by these companies, businesses can demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility.”

The charity has expressed that corporate partnerships provide great opportunities to help support their vital conservation work, in addition to offering employees a rewarding experience in developing relationships and communication skills.
