Tree works on site

We are having some work done on the trees in Brookside next week, specifically the ash trees that are deteriorating due to ash dieback. The condition of these trees has been under close inspection for many years now, and with the additional impact of ash dieback, their safe life expectancy has been greatly shortened. Since the birds in Brookside have now been moved to their new homes near the cassowaries, the decision has been taken to remove these trees before creating a new botanical exhibit in that area.

The work will initially cause some disruption, but the gardens team will work hard to mitigate this and tidy up as quickly as possible once the works are complete. Those who visit Paignton Zoo regularly may question the change to this area and the benefits of removing these trees, however their removal is an important next step in the renovation of Brookside and will make way for lots of beautiful replanting. We hope you’ll bear with us over the course of next week while this work takes place and join us in enjoying Brookside’s new look very soon!
